
FIELD TRIP TO DORSET COAST!!!
INTRODUCTION TO THE PETROLEUM GEOLOGY OF DORSET

The first of the two field trips planned by the BSGS for the 2003/2004 has been set for the weekend of 6th February, 2004.
Kathy Maclean has organised a field trip to the Dorset coast from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th February 2004.
Leader: Geoff Swan
Purpose: Examine why the Wessex Basin works as a petroleum system and why it does not.
Cost: £50, with a £20 non returnable deposit to be in by the end of January 2004. Price includes 2nights Bed and Breakfast. Transport from the college is free.
Itinerary:
Friday
Arrive hotel late afternoon
Short introduction to Dorset petroleum geology by GDS
Group discussion of the aims of the trip/lots of beer
Saturday
Kimmeridge Bay – source rocks and producing oil field
Lunch at Lulworth Cove or Osmington Mills
Osmington Mills and Ringstead – reservoirs, oil “seeps” and breached structures
Sunday am
